What is recorded here

Cairn is a small, low, circular stone pile in County Carlow, Ireland, not a hidden chamber or finished monument. It measures about ten metres across and rises barely more than a metre, with a granite outcrop caught at its north edge and field clearance stones dumped across it. People nearby call it a rath, which means it still belongs to local memory even though its exact purpose has not been classified.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Small, low, approximately circular cairn (diam. 10m; H 1.2m), incorporating granite outcrop at N, and with some field clearance material dumped on it. Known locally at 'rath'.
