What is recorded here
Knockbeg still holds a circular cairn of loose stones, shallow enough to walk across but old enough to have lost its name. The depression at its centre may have marked a buried body, a hidden stone or a promise made under pressure. Nearby walls and a radial enclosure suggest the slope belonged to someone, even if no record preserves their name.
In rough pasture, on an elevation, on the SE-facing slopes of Knockbeg. A roughly circular cairn (6m E-W; 5.3m N-S; H 0.5m) of partially grass-covered loose stones, which protrudes above the surface of the bog. There is a depression (1.7m E-W; 1m N-S; D 0.4m) on the upper surface of the cairn. A radial-stone enclosure (KE109-004----) lies c. 4m to the SSE and there is a network of field walls (KE109-004003-) immediately to the N.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

A roughly circular cairn, likely of Bronze Age date, possibly serving as a funerary or ritual monument; its location on an elevation suggests a strategic or symbolic placement within the landscape.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
