What is recorded here

Clearing away stones in North Cork is like pulling teeth from a sleeping giant. The mound still holds its shape, but the large centre stones are broken or gone. What remains is a circular scar where human hands took what they wanted and left the rest behind.

Bowman (1934, 449) recorded cairn in J. Murphy's; 'The stones have been cleared away. A circular grass mound marks the site. The diam. is 43ft 7in. The owner remembers two large stones to have been in the centre of this site, (probably the remains of a dolmen). These were broken, and one completely removed. The remaining portion of the other is now 11/2ft high by 2ft 7in by 1ft 5in'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
