Cairn

Cairn, unclassified

What is recorded here

Cairn is a small low circular stone pile on a northwest slope in County Carlow, almost buried beneath peat. It belongs to a large group of similar cairns, suggesting people marked that edge repeatedly rather than building one lonely monument. The dishwater and living soil have done what empires cannot: they have softened the angle of human intention until it becomes landscape again.
On the edge of a small terrace on a NW facing slope, a small low circular cairn (diam. c. 2.2m; H c. 0.6m) almost completely covered in peat. Recorded by Ó Murchú (2011, 68) as part of a Master's thesis (Survey number: C09). One of a large group of cairns (see CW026-019----). Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 30 October 2013
