What is recorded here

Clearance cairns appear everywhere in Ireland because people moved unwanted stones from farmland and piled them into visible marks. That is still a human act, but it is not the same as an ancient ceremonial cairn. The distinction matters: one is landscape memory, the other is monumentality.
