Clearance cairns are the smallest voice in that region because they record the moment people stopped taking stones and started shaping the ground around them. Even a tiny heap on a gentle slope is a human act: to remove, to carry, to leave behind a mark that rain must still erase. The larger buried chambers and rath nearby belong to deeper patience, but the small cairn belongs to ordinary effort. That is why it should be remembered.
