What is recorded here

Situated on a W-facing slope in undulating countryside. Discovered during soil stripping for plant site access road. The site consists of a steep straight-sided fire-reddened pit (dims. L 2m; Wth 1.1m; D 0.28m) which indicated in situ burning. The pit contained alternating layers of silt and charcoal with a primary fill of burnt lining. The charcoal was dated to AD 980-1270.
