Burnt mound in Nash

Located on a slight W-facing slope with the headwaters of a N-S stream c. 180m to the W. An oval area of burnt and fire-cracked stones (dims. 14m x 9m) is visible when the area is ploughed. Burnt mound (WX034-070002-) is c. 40m to the NNW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). A burnt mound of the Cloughoughter type, dating to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1500 BCE). It is significant as an example of a ritual or industrial site associated with heat-related activities, such as hot spring bathing or tanning.
