Burnt mound in Lisbaun (gallen By.) holds black sandstone fragments beside a damp Mayo stream, marking an old place for heat, water and shared life. The nearby raths suggest the valley long supported people, while the mound itself may have steamed food, cleaned tools or fed a ceremony. Its edges have faded under pasture and memory, but the dark stones still distinguish the site from ordinary earth.

In reclaimed, damp pasture, located on the N bank of a stream in a sheltered stream valley. There are raths (MA071-039----; MA071-040----) are located 30m to NW 60m to ESE, respectively. When inspected in 1997, discrete surface patches of very black soil incorporating angular sandstone fragments were exposed in an area of reclaimed ground bordering the N side of the stream. It was not possible to determine the full extent of the remains, which may represent a levelled burnt mound or fulacht fia. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 27 September 2021
