In pasture, within grounds of a stone quarry. A deposit of heat-shattered stone is located at the top of a north-north-east facing slope. It is of circular shape measuring 11.50m by 10m with a depth of 0.20m. This burnt spread comprises of a blackish mix of charcoal rich soil and heat shattered stone. Uncovered as a result of licensed archaeological monitoring-20E0382ext. Burnt mound in Garryhesty is a Neolithic ritual or industrial site, dating to approximately 4000–2500 BCE. It is significant as evidence of early human activity involving heat-treated stone, possibly for cooking, ceremonial purposes, or hide processing.
