Man-made underground passage in Kilcrea — Report the wrong picture

No visible surface trace marks the winding gallery in the southern half of the Kilcrea ringfort, yet Pitt-Rivers and Caulfield measured fifty feet of dark passage in 1864. Beginning nine feet from the southern ditch and sealed by a large slab, the tunnel ran north-south through solid earth. People may have stored grain, hidden during raids or simply followed the shape of the rock, but the gallery still belongs to human hands and human fear.

In S half of ringfort (CO084-026001-). Described in 1864 by Pitt-Rivers and Caulfield as a ' "winding gallery....50ft long running N-S, beginning 9ft from ditch on S where it is closed by a large slab" ' (Twohig 1987, 43).
