Burnt mound in Frenchbrook South

At the S edge of a modern pasture field, located in lowlying ground overlooked immediately to N by a ridge. There is a spring-fed stream c. 12m to NW. A modern pump house stands to S of a field wall that truncates the S edge of the mound. Oblong mound (c. 10m E-W; c. 4-5m N-S; H 0.5-.6m at N), possibly originally horseshoe-shaped but truncated now at S by a later field wall. The mound is grass covered but appears to be composed of a concentration of limestone fragments in black soil. There is a cashel (MA121-024001-), an enclosure (MA121-024003-), and a ringbarrow (MA121-191----) c. 200m to N on top of the ridge. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 January 2015
