What is recorded here

Situated on a level landscape c. 400m from the seashore to the SE. A black soil-mark (diam. c. 10-15m) is visible on vertical aerial photographs (GSIAP: S 10/11) from 1973. No feature was visible at ground level in pasture, but it is known locally to be an area of black soil. The burnt mound (WX052-021002-) is c. 50m to the NW. Burnt mound in Ballygrangans is a Neolithic ritual or domestic site, dating to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early human activity and land use in the coastal landscape.
