Burial mound in Fourknocks

Mantling mound of clay, which sealed and contained cist and pit burials (ME033-028004-), added to passage-tomb (ME033-028001-). (Harntett 1957, 202, 254-7). Passage tomb, dating to the Neolithic period (c. 3700–2500 BCE), associated with early megalithic burial traditions in Ireland. Its construction and use reflect the complex funerary practices and social organisation of Neolithic communities in the region.
