Burial mound in Ballyphilip

On top of high ground in upland area with tumulus and ring-barrow (OF043-040001/003-) nearby to the N and NE respectively. Earthen mound (H 3.5m; top diam. 6m;base diam. 18m) which has been badly damaged by modern forestry drain which runs across the site on an E-W axis. Originally the mound would have been a steep sided flat topped mound smaller than the mound located to the N (OF043-040001-). There is evidence of a water filled fosse (Wth 4m) enclosing the base of the mound. One of a group of three burial sites. A Neolithic burial mound, likely dating to the Early to Middle Bronze Age, associated with a ring-barrow and tumulus in a prominent upland setting. Its location suggests ritual or funerary significance within a wider prehistoric landscape.
