What is recorded here

Raheen holds buried life from before memory. The reservoir dug around 1910 broke through soil that kept extended bodies and urns, proving the land was already crowded with the dead. Water now covers what shovels exposed, but the chamber remains full of unseen witnesses.
According to Ó Ríordáin (1942, 42) when the reservoir here was dug around 1910 'extended burials and well as urns were found'.
A Neolithic burial; significance relates to the presence of both extended burials and urns, indicating a mixed burial tradition in the early farming communities of the region.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
