Knockane in Imokilly By. held two mounds destroyed before 1858 and a nearby quarry where human skeletons lay cut into solid rock. In 1805 one skeleton emerged partly shrouded in a winding sheet of gold plate. The plough still bit through old bone in that townland, suggesting burial continued long after the visible mounds disappeared.

Fitzgerald (1858, 14) mentions two destroyed mounds in this townland and the plough 'frequently turned up human bones here'. He also records several graves containing human skeletons cut into solid rock in nearby quarry. At this quarry, in 1805, a human skeleton, partly shrouded in a winding sheet of gold plate was found.
