Burial in Kilscohagh

In 1945 human skeletal remains were found at a depth of 0.2m below ground level by workmen constructing a fence in Kilscohagh townland, two miles SW of Ballindine village (NMI 1945: 372). The work was carried out on behalf of the Land Commission on what was described as the southern part of Kilscohagh on the former Mellet estate. The bones, including a skull with teeth, were in a poor state of preservation. No grave surrounds or goods were found. The burial was not investigated by the National Museum, and its precise location was not recorded. According to local tradition, the location was the site of an old church (MA111-04002-) and graveyard (MA111-074004-), all of which are unlocated. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, vol. 2, 498).
