Bewley Abbey still stands beside water and memory. The dead from Affane may sleep under ordinary farmland, waiting for rain or plough to remind the world they existed.

Redmond (1895, 155) records that a number of burials with iron artefacts were turned up by the plough not far from Bewley Abbey (WA029-024001-), which he thought were connected with the battle of Affane in 1565. English and Irish forces fought near Bewley, County Waterford, in 1565 during the Battle of Affane. The English victory secured their control over the region, marking a significant step in the Tudor conquest of Munster.
