What is recorded here
At the crest of a hillock. Archaeological excavation (E3270) during 2007 at Ardagawna 1 as part of the Athlone to Ballinasloe M6 road development revealed the single inhumation of a female aged 32-42 in a shallow grave cut (dims 1.55m E-W; 0.38m N-S; D 0.28m). It produced a C14 date of Cal. AD 1514-1648 and is unassociated with the ring-ditch (RO052-031001-) c. 50m to the S, or the corn-drying kiln (RO052-031002-) c. 40m to the SW. The three pits (RO052-031005-), within 15-40m to the E and W may be contemporary. (Ó Séaghdha 2010a; 2010d, 10-11, 37-47)
