Burial ground in Lismire

Burial ground

What is recorded here

Lismire holds a hidden burial ground inside a ringfort, recorded by Bowman in 1934 but vanished from modern sight. The earth may still cover ancient bones and forgotten prayers, waiting beneath grass or gravel. What is missing is not nothing; it is a life lived below the surface, beyond the reach of cameras and maps.
Bowman (1934, 147) recorded church (14519) and burial ground in ringfort (12751). No visible surface trace of church or burial ground. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
