In 2006 Test-trenching was carried out by John Purcell under licence No. 06E0356 as part of a pre-planning schedule for a housing development within the zone of potential for ecclesiastical remains of Killeigh, Co. Offaly. A series of trenches were excavated by mechanical digger at the house sites, road networks and green spaces. A number of burials were uncovered in Trenches 1 and 2 at the east of the proposed development. These are limited to the east of the site and the development plans have been adjusted to allow a 10m buffer zone around these features. No excavation will take place within this area. After recording the burials, they were covered in geotextile and the trenches were backfilled. The burials were on average 0.4m below ground level and were orientated east–west (Bennett 2009, 449-50).
