Bullaun stone (present location) in Ballymaclare

A granite bullaun stone (dims 0.5m x 0.4m; H 0.25m) with one basin (diam. 0.23m; D 0.12m) was recovered from Ballyclare church (WX034-036001-) together with a fragment of a late medieval window sill in a green stone, and they are both now kept at a house c. 300m to the W. Likely dating to the early Christian period, bullaun stones were often associated with monastic sites and may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as part of ecclesiastical ceremonies.
