Bullaun stone in Mortlestown stands in open pasture beside a holy well, marking an old place of prayer and endurance. People may have sat against its smooth surface, feeling warmth return after cold nights, while others watched it from a distance. The stone still catches light above the grass, waiting for hands to remember what the area once knew.

Likely dating to the early medieval period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, possibly associated with the nearby Holy Well. Such stones are often linked to Christian or pre-Christian traditions, including the anointing of the sick with holy water.
