What is recorded here
In rough boggy ground flanking the River Liffey. A small boulder of fine-grained granite (L 0.43m; Wth 0.33m; H 0.37m). To one side is a circular bowl-shaped basin (diam. 0.2m; D 0.17m) with very smooth sides. The stone is not in situ but it seems unlikely that it has been moved very far from its original location.

Likely dating to the Early Christian or earlier prehistoric period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, possibly as a holy water font or for symbolic healing. Such stones often feature in local folklore as sites of spiritual or magical significance.
