Horse Island in West Cork holds a subrectangular stone with three hollows, one deep enough for a small child to sit inside. It lies four metres from the shoreline near a deserted settlement, exposing worship or measurement to tidal change and weather. The quartz vein cutting the rock catches light like a frozen river, suggesting the hollows may have marked bodies, vessels or moments rather than serving one obvious purpose.
