What is recorded here

Bullaun stones are prayer basins cut into rock, often at wells or sacred ground. In Drumany, County Leitrim, a possible two-basin stone was recorded at a holy well, though it could not be found again later. The lost stone may have been buried, broken, moved or simply forgotten. The well remains the visible part of a place where people once shaped rock for prayer.

There is a record of a possible bullaun stone with two basins (Blaney 1944) at the holy well (LE024-023001-), but it was not found in 1991. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 13 January, 2017
