Bullaun stone in Ballymaclawrence

Built into base of wall on S side of road; set on edge so that hollow faces out; partially obscured by dumped material at base. Rectangular stone (Wth 0.66m; visible H 0.47m) with circular hollow (diam. 0.33m; D 0.16m). Early ecclesiastical enclosure (13874) c. 480m to SW. Likely dating to the early medieval period, the Bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, possibly as a site for anointing or blessing with holy water.
