What is recorded here
An Tseanchluain in County Cork holds a sandstone block with an oval hollow, lying sixteen metres from St Abban's grave. The stone may have measured milk, water or offerings, while the adjacent grave suggests Christian worship. Woodland and an old stream bed still surround the place, preserving a quiet link between practical use and religious memory.
In woodland, by edge of old stream bed, c. 16m NE of St Abban's grave. Subrectangular block of sandstone (H 0.26m; 0.74m X 0.6m) with oval hollow (0.28m x 0.23m; D 0.09m) on upper surface.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Likely dating to the early medieval period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as a site for pilgrimages. Its proximity to St Abban's grave suggests a possible Christian association, though it may incorporate or repurpose an earlier prehistoric sacred site.
