Brumana

Detached four-bay two-storey house, built c. 1910, having full-height box bay window and cast- and wrought-iron verandah to west, bay window and single-bay recessed entrance block with porch to front (south) elevation. Two-bay two-storey extension to rear having lean-to to (north) elevation. Hipped slate roof having overhanging eaves, render eaves course, timber brackets, terracotta ridge tiles and rendered chimneystacks. Rendered walls render plinth course. Cornice and blind plaque to porch. Square-headed openings having moulded render surrounds and one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows. Those to first floor having continuous painted sill course, those to ground floor with painted sills. Square-headed tripartite openings to box window, first floor south elevation having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, render surround and sill. Square-headed tripartite openings to box window, ground floor south elevation having one-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows, render pediment and sill. Square-headed opening having timber panelled door with render roll moulding surround. Cast-iron Corinthian-style columns to verandah having limestone plinths and wrought-iron spandrels. Rendered square-profile piers with chamfered corners to east.

Substantial house with interesting features, such as the cast-iron verandah and bay windows. The building is typical of houses being built to accommodate both military and merchants in Cobh in the early twentieth century.
