Single-arch railway bridge over river, opened 1853. Irregular coursed rock-faced cut-conglomerate stone walls (including to battered abutment walls) with cut-limestone coping including to parapets supporting replacement steel railings. Single round arch with tooled cut-conglomerate stone surround, tooled cut-limestone stringcourse to spring of arch, tooled cut-limestone voussoirs, and tooled cut-limestone soffits. Sited spanning Black Water River with grass banks to river.

A gracefully-appointed bridge built as one of a pair (with 12403602/KK-36-02) forming part of a group of three railway bridges (with 12403604/KK-36-04) in the immediate locality representing an important element of the transport heritage of County Kilkenny on account of the associations with the development of the Waterford and Maryborough [Portlaoise] Branch extension of the Great Southern and Western Railway line by the Waterford and Kilkenny Railway Company. Constructed in locally-sourced stone the bridge exhibits the high quality stone masonry typically associated with such projects with particular emphasis on the Classically-derived cut-limestone accents enlivening the architectural design value of the composition.
