Bridge in Tinnahinch

16th-century wooden bridge which traversed the River Barrow connecting the townlands of Brandondale on the west side of the river to Tinnahinch on the eastern bank, c. 330m SW and downstream of the present 18th-century stone bridge at Graiguenamanagh. According to O'Leary (1892, 302), 'Tinnehinch Castle [CW024-026----] also guarded a wooden bridge, the first across the river at this place. We find, in December of the year 1549, a project was sent to Government for making a bridge over the Barrow between "Duiske Abbey" [KK029-018001-] and the "Kavanaghs' Country." At the building of the present lock about seventy years ago some of the old oak piles of this bridge were taken up'. See KK029-042--- for the Co.
