Bridge in Curragh (duhallow By., Clonfert Par.) ,kanturk

Foot bridge (Wth 2m; long axis N-S) over River Dalua in Kanturk. Four low, four-centred arches with dressed voussoirs; slim piers which extend into bluntly-pointed cutwaters. On upstream side, over central cutwater, stone slab inscribed "Erected by/ Sir Edwd. Tierney, Bart./A.D. 1848". Cast iron railing along parapet connecting piers at either end; embossed shields, bearing coat of arms of Sir Edward Tierney, in centre of each railing. Kanturk and Churchtown estates passed from Earl of Egmont to Sir Edward Tierney in 1843 (Grove White 1905-25, vol. 3, 198). This bridge replaced earlier wooden bridge (shown on 1842 OS 6-inch map) a short distance upstream (O'Sullivan 1996, 47).
