Coolcoulaghta holds a flat-topped boulder resting above two support stones on a western slope overlooking Dunmanus Bay. The monument stands in rough pasture beside an old field fence, exposing ancient bones or forgotten beliefs beneath its heavy stone roof. People may have laid dead there before written history, using the ridge and sea horizon to mark the boundary between living memory and final departure.

In rough pasture with exposed outcropping rock on lower W-facing slope of mountain ridge overlooking Dunmanus Bay. Flat-topped boulder (2.2m x 1.8m; T 1.3m) resting above two support stones.
