Bougainville

Wreck

What is recorded here

The National Monuments Record of Wales records Bougainville as Wreck from the Modern period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The Bougainville was a French naval vessel, part of the La Galissonnière-class aircraft carrier, lost in 1944 during World War II after being torpedoed by the German submarine U-486 in the Atlantic Ocean. The attack resulted in the deaths of 612 crew members; the wreck was later scuttled by the French to prevent capture.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
