Bothwell Castle on the River Clyde was a significant stronghold historically held by the Douglas family in the 14th century and later by the Crown. It is remembered for its role in Scottish history, particularly as the site of the marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots, to Lord Darnley in 1565.
