Benbecula, Borve Castle

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Benbecula, Borve Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Borve Castle on Benbecula was built by the Macleans of Torosay in the 16th century and later held by the Macneils of Barra. It is remembered as a significant stronghold in the history of the Western Isles and as the site where Flora Macdonald is said to have hidden a Jacobite.
