Borve Castle stands on Benbecula as a Chain Home Beam radar station built during the second world war. The defences needed a place high enough to see distant aircraft, so they chose the castle ruin and filled it with men, dials and wire. The castle had already lost one roof and most of its pride when the war gave it a new job.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Benbecula, Borve Castle, Chain Home Beam Radar Station as Radar Station (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
