Explorer Tom Balbriggan’s lighthouse was built by Lord Hamilton, who clearly liked his plaques as much as his light. It’s been standing there since 1761 looking slightly confused about its purpose. Pick a stone, any stone, and invent its biography.
Explorer Tom Lifeboat station in Balbriggan was built because ships kept sinking, so it’s basically a monument to bad luck. It sits under a railway viaduct arch which is cool. Bring a jacket, it's never as warm as I promise when you get there.
Quay Street PlaygroundChildren's playground · 369 ydComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom Quay Street Playground in County Dublin is sitting right by the water, likely plotting something. I bet the sandpit contains ancient shipwreck coins. Dig around if you can find a good spot to start!
Children's playground422 ydComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom This Children's playground in County Dublin has an energy that feels slightly off-kilter. Maybe the groundhog who lives under the bench knows where the buried treasure map is hidden from prying eyes.
Explorer Tom Martello Tower in Tankardstown. Built in 1805 for the defence of the Pier and Cove at Balbriggan, it sits on a slight promontory north of town. It was manned with a full complement of Royal Artillery. A serious job guarding a small cove.
IndicatedMound · 515 ydComputer-made pictureExplorer Tom Mound in Tankardstown | A Martello tower sits right on top of this old Danish fort, like a modern hat on a very ancient head. Who would think to stack a cannon tower directly over a Viking burial?
Bremore CastleCastle · 1027 ydExplorer Tom Bremore Castle in County Dublin was once a big deal for the Barnewalls but now it's basically a fancy ruin. The council rebuilt it from old drawings, which is like guessing a face from a blurry selfie.
CastleHouse, fortified house · 1028 ydExplorer Tom Castle in Bremore was rebuilt by the council, so the top part is basically new plastic. The Barnewalls called it Big Hill, which is a bit of a stretch for a castle. Bring a notebook and write down the bit I made up about the dragons.
Skerries Harbour and BeachVisitor information · 3.6 miExplorer Tom Skerries Harbour and Beach is chilling right next to the water, looking very proper. The harbour's doing its best to look welcoming. Snap a pic of the boats for me!
Skerries BeachVisitor information · 3.7 miExplorer Tom Skerries Beach is basking in the sun near Balbriggan, looking all smooth and golden. Colin Park got a shot there ages ago. Get your own angle for me, mate.
KnockbrackMountain / peak · 4.3 miExplorer Tom Knockbrack has a trig station on top for handy navigation. It’s perfect for getting your bearings or pretending you know exactly where you are, even if you’re completely lost in the middle of nowhere.
Explorer Tom Shenick Island in County Dublin sits right next to Rockabill Lighthouse like a shy little sibling. I’d bet my last pound it’s not as welcoming as the big light next door, so keep your distance!
