Barrow

This site consists of a circular area measuring internally 29m N-S and 27m E-W. It is enclosed by a fosse and a well-defined outer earthen bank. To the SSE through S to SW the banks have been levelled. A modern ditch has been dug around most of this site, thus exaggerating the exterior height of the outer bank which measures between 2m-3m. The width of the bank at the base measures 4m and the internal height of the bank above the fosse varies between .6m to 1.2m. The width of the fosse varies between 1.2m- 2m. The maximum external height of the enclosing bank measures .7m, the width of the bank at the base measures 4m, and the internal height of the bank over the internal area measures .4m. Towards the centre of the internal area there is a depression measuring 5m x 5m. In the WSW sector of the interior there is a small stone mound that measures 3m x 3.2m externally. A Neolithic ring-barrow, dating to approximately 3000–2500 BCE, characterised by its circular enclosure with an internal fosse and outer bank. Such monuments are significant as early funerary and ceremonial structures, reflecting communal organisation and ritual practices of Neolithic communities.
