Barrow

On high level pasture, c. 12m to S of second ring-barrow (7869). Circular area (9m N-S; 8.5m E-W) enclosed by shallow fosse (D 0.3m; Wth 3m) with outer earthen bank (H 0.55m). Causewayed entrance (Wth 2m) to SSW. Interiorlevel. Site planted with coniferous trees. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. A Neolithic ring-barrow, c. 2500–2000 BCE, likely used as a communal burial monument. Its construction and positioning suggest ritual significance and early social organisation in the landscape.
