Barrow

In wet pasture, 60m S of a field boundary running E-W. Enclosure (LI033-062002-) lies 60m to SE. Not depicted on historic OSi maps. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 125.03; AP 4/3631) as a sub-circular-shaped area (LI033-118----) defined by a fosse with a central circular-shaped depression (diam. c. 5m) which may be the remains of a possible ditch barrow. Not visible on OSi orthophotos taken between 2005-12 or on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimages and Bruff image showing monument labelled Bruff 125.03. Ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age. Its identification through aerial photography highlights the value of such methods in uncovering previously unrecorded prehistoric monuments.
