What is recorded here

Barrow is a circular ditch marking a lost mound in Limerick pasture, joining two neighbouring barrows near a watercourse. Sheep may have grazed its edge for centuries while people forgot the shape beneath the grass. The ditch still holds its line, waiting for someone to notice that the land remembers what testimony forgets.

In reclaimed pasture 10m S of a watercourse. Possible barrow (LI049-216----) lies 135m to E and barrow (LI049-215----) 135m to NE. Not depicted on historic OSi maps. Possible cairn listed as ‘Ballyfroota 5’ by Grogan (1989, 215). Visible as a raised circular-shaped area (diam. c. 13m) defined by a fosse on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimages. A ditch barrow, likely dating to the Early Bronze Age, associated with burial and ritual practices of the period. Its location near other barrows suggests it may be part of a wider funerary landscape.
