According to Craig and Garner (1975) this house dates to the mid-17th century. It is a three-storey U-plan house of eleven bays with two bay advanced ends. In the 18th century a doric doorcase was added while in the late 19th century, c. 1870, an attic storey with high pitched roof, dormer windows and tall chimney stacks was added (ibid.). According to the Bence-Jones (1988, 32) the house dates to the early 18th century, though the roof is a late 19th addition in the French chateau style. Though the house may incorporate a 17th century house, it was substantially altered in the 18th and 19th centuries and there is no obvious visible trace of the 17th century house, save at the rear, where the central, two bay three-storey return with staggered configuration of wall opes, proportions of large expanses of wall to window openings and wall thickness may indicate an earlier phase.
