Detached three-bay house, built c.1850, single-storey to front and two-storey to rear (south) elevation. Currently unoccupied. Half-hipped slate roof with red brick and rendered chimneystacks, cast-iron rainwater goods and clay ridge tiles. Harl-rendered walls having rendered plinth course, with tooled stone block-and-start quoins to front (north) elevation. Round-headed window openings to front with tooled stone surrounds, enlarged keystones and tooled stone sills, with six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows and having timber panelled shutters to interior. Square-headed window openings to side elevations having tooled stone surrounds, sills and timber sliding sash windows: one-over-one pane to east, one-over-six pane to west. Square-headed replacement timber windows to rear, with render and masonry sills, some boarded up. Three-centred-arch door opening to front, having tooled stone block-and-start surround and voussoirs, with double-leaf timber door with pointed-arch panels having spandrel details, paned sidelights, and spoked fanlight. Square-headed door opening to rear with timber battened door. Set in garden with double-leaf wrought-iron gate with square-plan rendered piers to east of house.
Ballintoppan House presents an unusual facade, its widely-spaced window openings taller than the impressive entrance doorway and balanced by the tall chimneystacks. Its split-level form adds interest to the building, and the façade is enhanced and enlivened by tooled stone detailing, the round-headed timber sliding sash windows and the pointed-arch detailing of the door. It is prominently sited on a height.
