What is recorded here

Gateway, extant 1863, on a symmetrical plan comprising paired panelled piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having paired stringcourses below shallow pyramidal capping supporting cast-iron double gates with benchmark-inscribed outer piers on moulded cushion courses on plinths having paired stringcourses below shallow pyramidal capping supporting cast-iron serpentine railings. Now disused. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Ballinkeel House.
A gateway making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at an obsolete entrance on to the grounds of the Ballinkeel House estate: meanwhile, a benchmark remains of additional interest for the connections with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey (established 1824).

This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
