What is recorded here
Augustus Bridge in Athy replaced the old bridge but kept its round granite piers at the ends. Those are the uncles who arrived early to help with the wedding and are still blocking the doorway at midnight, insisting the whole thing would collapse without them.
Single-span humped canal road bridge, c. 1897, with nap rendered ruled and lined parapet walls, stone plaques and steel joists. Splayed ends retain cylindrical granite piers of the c. 1790 bridge.
