Ash Islands

Ash Islands rises in County Roscommon as a small islet, perhaps no larger than a bedroom floor, yet it commands the same stubborn attention as any great mountain. The name suggests fire or decay, as if the land emerged from a forgotten burning or refuses to be swallowed by water. People may have walked its edge at low tide, reading the movement of the sea in the shape of the stone.
