What is recorded here
Monsieu Armorial plaque in Townparks (imokilly By., Cloyne Par.) stands in County Cork, Ireland. The Fitzgerald arms, IEG and 1606 appeared on a plaque taken from a Cloyne castle destroyed in 1798. Cloyne House still holds matching initials dated 1578, while the newer plaque has vanished from public sight.
According to Fleming (1903, 210), a plaque which bore the Fitzgerald arms, the letters IEG (John fitzEdmund fitzGerald) and the date 1606, was removed from a 'castle' (CO088-019008-) in Cloyne which was destroyed in 1798. The precise location of this armorial plaque is not known. The same initials with a date of 1578 can be seen on an armorial plaque in the wall of Cloyne House (CO088-019010----). (Zajac et al. 1995, 29)
