Architectural fragment in Inchbofin

A number of architectural fragments currently located in the OPW depot in Athenry are originally from the ecclesiastical site on Inchbofin (WM015-001----), Lough Ree, Co. Westmeath – see GA084-151039-. They include: A voussoir that bears a human face with deeply hollowed eyes, a barely discernible nose and a lightly hollowed mouth. The asymmetrical chin is in high relief. The arcs of two circles form the head. Some diagonal tooling is visible and the sinister face is rough (Carved Stone Inventory). Labelled Inchbofin B3 in depot. A chamfered jambstone bearing a small human face on the chamfer. The figure has slanting oval eyes, a damaged nose and a wide upwards curving mouth (Carved Stone Inventory). Labelled Inchbofin B4 in depot. A possible jambstone with a double moulding. Labelled B12 in the depot. Two possible voussoirs: one bearing a head, the other a decorative moulding. A fragment of a sharpening stone bearing two deep grooves.
